Shirot hayu li chukecha b’veit m'guraiy
(Your statutes have been my songs in the house of my wandering)
Ner l’ragli d’varecha, v’ohr l’nativati.
(Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.)
Shine your light upon the paths we walk
That we might sing all your melodies.
Kumi uri shir debeiri, k’vod Hashem aliech nigla
(Arise and shine, utter a song, the glory of God is revealed upon you.)
Commentary from Rav Shamshon Raphael Hirsch:
"...Your statutes became my songs in the house of my wandering on earth. I fled from the public places in which I perceived nothing but shocking insults to Thy Law, and I took refuge in the sphere of my own quiet domesticity; and there Thy laws became my sources of gladness and inspiration, even as the weary wanderer is cheered by his song."
